We have a new release coming out this August on cassette via Fan Death Records featuring 2 brand new songs that will be appearing in October as a 7 inch. The cassette is going to be called Ice Station and will look pretty much like the above photo other than a title change. Here's the track list:

Side A
Siberian Eclipse
New Visions
Deathdream (Live)
Too Much Speed (Live)
Tomorrow is Too Far (Live)
New Visions (Live)

Side B
Siberian Eclipse (Demo)
Fever
Slipping Away
Asteroid Exile
All Places

The live tracks were recorded by our friend Steve Sanford at the show we did with Spectrum in May at the Velvet Lounge in DC. There's also the original demo of Siberian Eclipse and another song you might recognize from Interceptors.. And the Ice Station sessions are from October 2008.

Third Rail Radio This Sunday
We also just went into the studio with Sean Gray from Fan Death this past weekend and recorded a session at WMUC radio which will be aired this Sunday on Third Rail Radio. There will be some old tracks and some brand new stuff featured.

DC City Paper endorses Sunday's happenings..

There’s something hopeful about Screen Vinyl Image’s noise. For a while,
it made Jesus and Mary Chain-style art pop with harsh beats—the group,
more or less, was making in D.C. the same stuff a Place to Bury
Strangers was making in New York. In 2010 Screen Vinyl Image is a
different band: On “New Visions,” the B-side of its new Fan Death Records
7-inch, it revels in distant, observational vocals, harsh-light
ambience, and clean, sequenced beats. That doesn’t exactly make it a
cousin of the other bands on Fan Death, who lean toward sonic and
thematic assault. If you’ve got a problem with the label, let ‘em know:
While Screen Vinyl Image plays the Velvet Lounge’s second floor, Fan
Death’s Sean Gray will be DJing downstairs.

Oh and this got lost in all the site revisions going on, Big Takeover Review of Interceptors

The intro is all atmosphere, then when the songs
start, it’s
noise and distortion, melodics, and the depth of some barbed wire kisses
crushing out like a perfect mix of a Jesus & Mary Chain Suicide.
This is
experimental shoegaze goth techno darkwave, distorted into something
more,
enchanting, hypnotic, and folding noise into melody. It’s a dream
soundtrack, a
nightmare kiss, with both sides leaving you wanting more. The layers
fit,
and the
broken drums stay solid, staggered against the underwater mystery of the
vocals
and the sparkled crush of guitar—mellow, but menacing, promising a world
of
wonder, but holding danger between each note.

Velvet Lounge Show This Sunday

We got a huge show coming up this weekend at the Velvet Lounge. Check the details and links. We're also heading into WMUC 88.1 to do a recording session with Sean Gray (Fan Death Records). We'll keep you posted about the results.

So here we go:

From Washington Post Blog:
Cold wave - it's not that hard to figure out what it is. It's like new wave but ... colder. Okay, that's an over-simplification of the disaffected, dark, synth-heavy music that starting dripping out of Europe in the '70s and '80s but, hey, we're blurbing here. It's mopey and dramatic and people who wear black dig it. Sean Gray (who helps run local label Fan Death Records) and Denman Anderson (who DJs No Control! and contributes to local blog All Our Noise) will be your DJ guides through No Love Lost, their new Cold Wave DJ night that debuts Sunday at Velvet Lounge. There is an appropriate collection of bands playing upstairs, including local shoegaze/noise-makers Screen Vinyl Image and Indianapolis's We Are Hex, who play icy and spiky post-punk with well-placed bursts of mayhem.

Sunday July 18
Velvet Lounge, Washington DC
Night and the City, We Are Hex, The Water

AND!

No Love Lost DJ night downstairs.
Sean Gray (Fan Death) and Denman Anderson spin
tons of darkwave and coldwave all night long.

Site Updated

We updated the SVI site. Should be easier to get to things like social media sites and previewing albums and such.

We'll be adding some extras too in the coming weeks.

We have some shows coming up this month in the DC area.

Word on the street is the Fan Death Ice Station EP on cassette tape will be out in August and the Siberian Eclipse 7 Inch in the fall. Sorry for the delay on this. Track info will be coming soon.

Too Much Speed single is also planned to come out this fall and we're planning something special for the 12 inch.

We're also planning a split 7 inch with Rude 66 (Bunker / Creme Org). We're really stoked about this split and if you don't know anything about Rude66, we highly recommend you doing some google searching. "from deep atmospheric soundtrack acid to dark industrial electro-funk
and melancholic electronic wave disco, rude 66 has done it with a
dystopian edge of new wave-futurism." More info to come on this collaboration.

Indie Rock Magazine Dual Review of Remixes and Interceptors

http://indierockmagazine.com/press.html

INTERCEPTORS

A ride through space begins in Washington, D.C. Screen Vinyl Image, is
an independent shoegaze/synth pop band heavily influenced by Depeche
Mode. This is evident with the instrumental track "Synthetic
Apparition," which is from the CD "Interceptors" released in January
2009. A "creepy" tale about aliens invading Earth. This track features
a relentless dose of keyboards. This type of instrumentation brings out
the eerie feel of the song.

Screen Vinyl Image, creates "space age" music that will make hair stand up on the back of the neck.

-Leslie Snyder

REMIXES

The journey through the galaxy continues with Screen Vinyl Image. The independent shoegaze/synth pop band released their "groovy" follow up CD "Remixes" in March 2010. This CD also has the heavy influence of Depeche Mode. Evidence of this is in the sixth track "Passing Through Mirrors." A futuristic sounding track about the stuggles of everyday life. people do not want to take a long, hard look at themselves. This track features slight hints of "robotic" vocals, and more relentless keyboard instrumentation. These features bring out the "gloomy" tone of the song.

Screen Vinyl Image creates more "hair raising" synth pop music.

We are doing some dates with Ceremony and Soundpool (and also Sky Drops)! We'll kick things off with playing DC's newest nightclub U Street Music Hall. Known for it's massive sound system, it seemed appropriate to put 3 shoegaze bands in the club to fully test it's capabilities. We then head to Fredericksburg VA (Skywave, Ceremony, Walls of Sound Fest) and then to Nofolk for a Custom Made Music curated event w/ The Sky Drops and local DJ's.

We just released an album of remixes, Ceremony just released their full length Rocket Fire and Soundpool just released their full length Mirrors in Your Eyes. Come hang out!

We’ve devoted a lot of words on this blog to what Fan Death
Records hates about D.C.—and less, for better or for worse, on what the Maryland label
loves.

I’ll drop the editorial we and say that I can get behind
D.C.’s Screen Vinyl Image, whose “Siberian Eclipse”
7-inch drops on Fan Death on June 29. I can’t tell you much about the
title song, just its B-side “New Visions,” which the label mailed out
today. Gone here are the Jesus and Mary Chain
histrionics, but not the distant and distorted J+MC vox. Those, combined
with the harsh-light ambience and laconic sequenced beats, are briefly
suggestive of the satisfying, Curtis-indebted iconoclasm of
Philadelphia’s Cold Cave. That all those elements are
soon swallowed by a wash of hopeful noise—though it feels wrong to call
it noisy—makes plain that the band isn’t especially interested in making
record-collector rock.

Pre-Psych Fest Interview with Austinist

Happiness Is a Warm Drum (Machine)

By Paige Maguire on Apr 5, 2010

Interivew By Ryan Muldoon

They say it takes two to tango - apparently, it also takes two to
create a massive wall of over-driven, electronic, ear-splitting musical
beauty. Or at least that’s what the two members of Screen Vinyl Image
have a reputation for doing.

On their most recent album, Interceptors, the duo known as
Screen Vinyl Image (Jake and Kim Reid) make the most of countless waves
of guitar layers, synthetic beats and keyboard craziness, coming
together for a sound that’s dangerous - but somehow, delightfully
digestible. When performing live, SVI seek to answer that eternal
question, “What would happen if Goblin did the score to Dario Argenta's
Susperia after buying the world’s largest PA, bathing
themselves in neon light and threatening to crack the audience’s backs
through sheer volume?”

And the answer is, “It would be awesome.”

What can you tell us about your commitment to providing a
visually stunning live performance? Was that a natural progression or
something more of a pre-determined goal for Screen Vinyl Image?

We used to use visuals in our old band Alcian Blue. We started out
with a 16mm projector and found films on eBay and then we moved onto
doing our own stuff with a digital projector. When we started SVI we
wanted to continue that tradition so we started out with oil projectors
and strobes before moving onto the digital projector and editing our
own visuals. Kim also wanted to do something different from the white
strobe effect which is why we use color gels. It's a big inspiration
from watching Italian horror movies. We also try to change up the
visuals every few months so you might see some of the same stuff, but
then a lot of new material as well.

We really like all
the psychedelic light show stuff from the 60's and 70's concerts but we
also went to raves during the 90's and there is a definite correlation
between those two movements and we wanted to have that element in our
live performance. Give people something to escape into for 30 or 40
minutes.

2 Reviews of Knitting Factory Shows

Two reviews have been sent to us covering last weeks Knitting Factory show in Brooklyn. It was great to be back in NYC again and it was great to be sharing the stage again with Ceremony and Outpost and meeting All Nines.

Sentamentalist Magazine

Link to Article

Fans of punk, Goth and shoegaze who were not in Brooklyn on Thursday
missed out on one sweet treat with the impressive bill of Ceremony,
Screen Vinyl Image, Outpost and 999999999 at the Knitting Factory.

The show opened with New York’s 999999999 (pronounced “All nines”),
which features guitarist Tony Banana Chow Mein, drummer Ted McGrath and
songs with early Pixies and Ramones influences.

Next was Washington, D.C.-area band Screen Vinyl Image — Jake Reid
and Kim Reid, aka J. Sequential and Kim K. The band’s sound lies
somewhere between 1980s new wave and 1990s shoegaze. Think Visage (or
early Berlin) meets Ride, synths and electronic beats with a heavy dose
of reverb. The band has even been known to cover Ride in live sets, but
not this night. Opening with the hard-driving “Cathode Ray,” from the
2009’s Interceptors, the band played only six songs, including two new
ones that will be released as 7-inch singles in the coming months.

Outpost, who veers more on the synth-driven Goth side of things,
reminded me of the dark soundscapes of Tones on Tail and Bauhaus, with
fluid bass lines and haunting vocals and guitars. Though Outpost has
two vocalists, the set included a surprising amount of instrumentals.
The band is fairly recent on the scene, having played together for nine
months now. Band members include Stuart Argabright, Mark C., and Kent
Heine, former members of such bands as Ike Yard, Live Skull and The
Holy Ghost. Outpost has just wrapped up recording on the debut album,
which the band is hoping to release later this year.

Headlining the night was Ceremony, another two-piece band, from
Fredericksburg, Virginia (not to be confused with the West Coast
hardcore band by the same name). These guys rocked, rather loudly, with
songs that recall the Creation Records heyday (pre-Oasis) with the
Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and early Ride but are more
up-tempo. The set included “Our Last Goodbye” and “For Her Smile,” as
well as a few new songs. Ceremony does not tour often, and lately has
not played much outside of the Virginia-Maryland-D.C. area, so this was
a rare chance for fans outside that region to see the band live.
Ceremony — vocalist/guitarist Paul Baker and bassist/vocalist John
Fedowitz – have a new album due out in Spring 2010.

Spotted in the audience were members of local heroes A Place To Bury
Strangers (with whom Ceremony and Screen Vinyl Image have shared the
stage), as well as Dead Leaf Echo.

With new releases expected from Screen Vinyl Image, Outpost and
Ceremony in 2010, one would hope to see them on the same bill again at
some point in the future – it would definitely be something to look
forward to. –Teresa Sampson, Photos by Teresa Sampson

I
finally had the time to trek Brooklyn, had to put em Red Wing jawnz,
left NJ and took the L train to Bedford Ave. It's been ages since I
took the L train, what a weird feeling. Anyway, I was so excited to
finally see Ceremony. It seems I'm terrible at keeping up with calendar
dates, luckily I didn't miss them this time. What better way to see
them with fellow shoegazer and Virginia natives, Screen Vinyl Image.
This is the second time I've seen SVI. Playing with the original line
up, Jake and Kim kept strumming those airy dissonant sounds with a loop
of discotheque electro beats. What else impresses me about SVI, besides
their upbeat yet dark sound is the enormous selection of effect and
pedals they use. Clearly I wrote "use" and not just a big rig of
stompers for show. Anyway, how fun it would be to play all those crazy
sounds, right? I feel like button smashing or rather pedal stomping
some right now. Continuing the pedal stomping and shoegaze-esque
sounds, Ceremony, 2/3 of former band Skywave, played dreamy noise songs
that without doubt reminds you that JAMC is somehow still alive. I do
think that Ceremony have more a distinct pop sound on their record and
that is something that made me play their records the whole night.
Having seen both great shoegaze bands it reminds me that people should
not end their ears at MBV. Big thanks to John for giving me a free
copy of Disappear. Never Love Again and Cold Cold Night are awesome
tracks. Please do watch out for their new record coming out soon.

The Blog That Celebrates Itself asked us to do a interview spanning the beginning of Alcian Blue, how we met up with Skywave, what shoegaze in the U.S. was like when we were doing it and how SVI started. It should be noted that the photos on the page were taken by Mandy McGee, Eamon Aiken, Tom Lugo (of Stellarscope), Jeremy Alisauskas (of Autodrone), Nick Ridgeway, and a few we have no idea.

Big Thanks

Big thanks to all those folks who listed Interceptors on their Best of 2009 lists. (a few links below) Also major thanks to all the people who had us play this past year, supported us along the way, and of course all the rad bands we have been very humbled to share the stage with.

We're currently tracking new material and putting together an album of remixes from Interceptors. We've got a few shows coming up in January which we will post info on soon and we'll be starting back up again, full force, in the spring. Til then, Happy New Year!

We hit #12 on Mishka Bloglin's Top 100 of 09
The year’s two most prominent revival genres, married at last. Interceptor
is so much the middle point between shoegaze and goth, you really can’t
call it anything but gothgaze: dark and ethereal, mechanical and still
somehow warm. I’ll be closely following Screen Vinyl Image in 2010; if Interceptor is any indication—and if they get the attention they deserve—we can expect nothing but great, gothgazey things.

Soon I found myself quickly forgetting about everything, and like a
moth to a blinding light, was standing front and center, transfixed by
a sound that simultaneously transported me back to 1984 and forward to
2024. I don't think the kids were ready for this aural onslaught of
vast, screaming guitar and keyboard textures, and at one point I
thought, by sheer sound alone, the band was going to blow the roof off

SVI Makes Magnet Mix Tape

Magnet asked us to make a mixtape so we did.

All the tracks are below (via YouTube) or you can go to Magnet and snag a free copy of "Lost in Repeat."

Screen Vinyl Image
calls its music a mixture of shoegaze, electronica and psychedelia, and
that’s as good a description as anything that we would have come up
with. The Virginia duo’s latest album is Interceptors (Custom
Made Music), and if you are into bands like My Bloody Valentine,
Spacemen 3, the Jesus And Mary Chain and Suicide, you should seek it
out. MAGNET asked Jake and Kim Reid to make us a mix tape.
